Cherry Creek School District Board of Education PUBLIC COMMENT February 14, 2022 Brian McKinney, CCSD District Accountability Chair at the time of this comment: Hello I'm a black parent in this district. Let me just start off by saying all Black Lives Matter. It's interesting, whenever equity, diversity or inclusion is discussed in this community, in these board meetings, there's always this this white supremacist energy. There's this anti-black racism because people are embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about true history. You know, white supremacy, white supremacy leads to popstars. I mean I mean, people saying things like 80% of the district is Christian, so we should do X. So what? We're just going to run over the other 20%? Well, 11% of the students in this district are black. You want to run over them, too? Not on my watch.
White supremacy is one potential leaders in this district openly soliciting local support from extremist white supremacist organizations as these organizations seek to intimidate families of color. White supremacy leads to the demonization and criminalization of students of color. White supremacy leads to the school to prison pipeline. No what, no, no, white supremacy is the school to prison pipeline. White supremacy leads to death threats on elected volunteer board members or other leaders within this district as they try to better serve certain communities that have traditionally been underserved in this district. White supremacy leads to gross indifference to the suffering, the pain and the needs of students of color. White supremacy. White supremacy is assuming that hiring more teachers of color and getting more students of color into advanced courses is lessening standards and rigor. White supremacy is looking at the data and asking why we need PASS or the Office of Equity, Culture and Community Engagement. White supremacists use Martin Luther King's quotes to mask and advance the racist agenda, but also white supremacists assassinated MLK Jr.
We want access to rigorous curriculum. We want more teachers of color. We want culturally responsive education. We want inclusive curriculum that highlights our contributions and treats us as equals. We need an Equal Opportunity Advisory Council of parents, staff members, stakeholders to work with district leadership to advise them of full and systemic implementation of equal educational opportunity for all our kids deserve it.
